Care for your new furniture

We want to thank you for making an investment in genuine hardwood furniture from Miller’s Dutch Haus Furniture. You can expect your genuine hardwood furniture to last a lifetime. Taking proper care of your furniture will ensure the longevity and provide years of enjoyment.

With proper care, your solid hardwood furniture will provide a lifetime of enjoyment. Below are a few guidelines for maintaining the beauty of your new furniture.

Sunlight     Furniture should be kept from direct sunlight and fluorescent fixtures that contain ultra-violet rays. These can cause chemical changes in the wood and finish and should be avoided. The sunlight will discolor the wood.

Heat and Humidity      Furniture should be kept away from heating sources such as heaters, fireplaces, furnace ducts and stoves. Furniture should also be kept away from cooling sources such as air conditioning ducts. The heat and humidity will affect the moisture content of the wood. The furniture should be placed in a humidity controlled environment. The ideal humidity range is 35%-45%. This will prevent warping and cracking. The wood in furniture exchanges moisture with the air. The wood will shrink when the air is dry and the humidity drops below 35%. The furniture will swell and warp when the air has moisture about 45%. Store table leaves in or close to your table to maintain consistent environment conditions.(Furniture must be kept in a climate controlled environment or your warranty is void)

Cleaning   Your furniture should be dusted often. You should carefully dust with a dry, soft cloth to remove abrasive dust particles. The furniture can also be periodically cleaned with a mild soap and water. You can apply Guardsman Furniture Polish to bring out the shine in the finish. Avoid using furniture polish that contains silicones and wax.

Suggestions

*Use coasters and trivets with non-scratching bottoms underneath glasses, cups and serving dishes placed on furniture.

*Avoid placing objects with sharp edges directly on the furniture.

*Avoid the use of nail polish remover, alcohol or other solvents near the furniture

Finish   The hardwood furniture you purchased has been finished with an Catalyzed Varnish. This varnish is a premium conversion varnish. It provides the wood with a strong durable coating. The varnish has excellent resistance to water, scratching, alcohol, yellowing and marring.
